How thyroid nodules are assessed.
A thyroid lump deserves proper assessment, and only the assessment can show whether a nodule needs treatment.
It includes examination of the neck and thyroid, thyroid function tests, a thyroid ultrasound, and FNAC for nodules that meet the criteria. A CT scan or other imaging may be used in selected cases.
If your symptoms persist or you are unsure of the cause, arrange an assessment.
Thyroid nodules may be caused by benign or malignant conditions. Ultrasound and biopsy may be required to determine the risk and whether treatment is needed.
If surgery is required, it may involve removing part or all of the thyroid gland depending on the diagnosis, size and extent of disease. Histopathology results help determine further treatment and follow-up.
