Lumps & Bumps
Any new, enlarging or changing lump should be assessed.
Lumps under the skin may include lipomas, cysts, abscesses, lymph nodes or other growths. Many are benign, but assessment is important to determine whether they can be monitored or need further investigation.
When should you be assessed?
- A lump that is getting larger
- A hard or fixed lump
- Pain, redness or pus
- A recurrent lump
- A lump accompanied by other symptoms such as weight loss or fever
How is it assessed?
- Clinical examination
- Ultrasound or other imaging if required
- FNAC or biopsy for selected lumps
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the cause. Some lumps can be monitored, while troublesome, infected or suspicious lumps may require removal, biopsy or further referral.
